Deer Tick - “Twenty Miles”

This band, from Providence, Rhode Island, is mainly built around the vocals of John McCauley, who incorporates country and rock influences into his writing and sound. After Rolling Stone proclaimed their second record Born on Flag Day the “Country-Rock breakthrough of the year”, they joined tours with Neko Case and Dawes. This song is from their third record, The Black Dirt Sessions, was culled from tracks recorded at the same time as Born on Flag Day.

The universe is no narrow thing and the order within it is not constrained by any latitude in its conception to repeat what exists in one part in any other part. Even in this world more things exist without our knowledge than with it and the order in creation which you see is that which you have put there, like a string in a maze, so that you shall not lose your way. For existence has its own order and that no man’s mind can compass, that mind itself being but a fact among others.”

The Black Keys Too Afraid to Love You - Recorded live in studio in Muscle Shoals, AL during the making of their newest album, Brothers. The Black Keys continue to be one of the coolest rock bands around today.  The eery nature of this song, the howling and airy sounds and Auerbach’s voice bring this song into a deep dark corner of your mind.

So awesome

In Tom Petty mode for concert next week.  Mudcrutch - Scare Easy

If you haven’t tried daytrotter yet, you’re missing out.  It is the best music web site around.  The people at Daytrotter catch bands on the road who stop by their Rock Island IL stuido and spend 2hrs recording 4 songs right in the middle of their tour.  Then they put those recordings up on their web site for anyone to download for free!

It’s awesome.  The recordings are more like it used be in the old days when people didn’t have the time or money to work everything to death.  The sessions are raw and give something in-between a live and regular studio version.   I’ve downloaded lots of stuff including; Drive By Truckers, Andrew Bird, Deer Tick, Spoon, Big Head Todd, Tori Amos, The Hold Steady, Illinois, Blind Boys of Alabama, Avett Brothers and others.

Besides downloading songs from some of your favorites, it’s also a great way to discover new music.  Try it!
